Delph School Meals

Delph School meals are cooked on the premises with our own in-house team!  This allows us to offer quality of meals, greater flexibility with our menus and better value for families. We currently have a high uptake for school meals!

From the 1st September 2026, the cost of a school meal at Delph is:

£2.85 per day / £14.25 per week.

BUT as part of the Government Universal Free School Meals Scheme, all pupils in Reception to Year 2 are entitled to FREE school meals. We encourage all our families to take up this offer.

Pre-School children who stay all day have the option to purchase a school meal or to bring in a packed lunch.

We provide a variety of nutritious hot and cold meals each day. Our kitchen staff work with our pupils to devise our menus which can be viewed below.

If your child has any specific dietary requirements, please make sure that we are made aware of this so that the kitchen can ensure that suitable alternatives are available. We aim to work in partnership with families to ensure your child is happy and safe with the food they eat.

Dinner money payments should be paid in advance of the meal being taken, via Parent Pay accounts.

Please notify the school office if your child wishes to change their lunch time arrangements, giving at least two weeks' notice.

Are You Eligible for Free School Meals?

If you think that you may be eligible for free school meals, please click on the icon, read the letter below or contact the school office if you require support to establish your eligibility.

From September 2026, all children in households receiving Universal Credit will be entitled to Free School Meals(FSM).

There will be two types of FSM

  • Targeted FSM - for families receiving Universal Credit with household earnings of £7,400 or less per year. Children will receive free meals in school AND this also provides schools with additional funding and access to some other support programmes.

  • Expanded FSM - for families receiving Universal Credit with earnings above £7,400 per year. Children will receive free meals in school.

Ending Transitional Protections

Since 2018, some families have continued to receive FSM even if their circumstances changed. This is known as ‘transitional protection’ or ‘Ever 6’. These protections will end from September 2026.

This means:

- Some families currently receiving FSM may no longer qualify.

- All families will need to meet the new eligibility criteria.

- Eligibility will be checked annually.

Who should complete the check?

Please complete the check if any of the below apply to you (and regardless of whether or not your child is currently entitled to Universal Free School Meals- YR-Y2):

  • Your household receives Universal Credit or other benefits.

  • You are in receipt of income-related Employment and Support Allowance.

  • You receive the guaranteed element of Pension Credit.

  • Your child currently receives free school meals.

  • Your child brings a packed lunch (as school can receive additional funding regardless of lunch preference).

  • You are unsure if your child will qualify from September 2026.

  • Your circumstances have recently changed.
