Delph Primary School is committed to delivering a curriculum which is dynamic, fun and meaningful in a safe, secure and stimulating environment with high standards and expectations.

We are passionate about developing lifelong skills which will enable all pupils to be resilient, respectful, independent and successful citizens of the future. We aim to provide a broad, balanced and rich curriculum and offer a wide range of exciting and challenging activities and experiences to all pupils, irrespective of ability, background, ethnic origin or gender. 

The curriculum is planned carefully to provide continuity and progression, as set out in each subject progression grid. It promotes an enjoyment of learning and a commitment to learning and achieving. Through the provision of rich and varied activities, we aim to:

• encourage the best possible progress and the highest attainment for all pupils;
• enable pupils to make connections across different areas of learning;
• help pupils to think creatively and solve problems;
• develop pupils’ capacity to learn and work independently and collaboratively;
• enable pupils to respond positively to opportunities, challenge and responsibility;
• enable pupils to acquire and develop a broad range of knowledge, skills and understanding.

The curriculum is taught through a mixture of discrete subject lessons and cross-curricular topic teaching. A whole school topic plan sets out the topics for each half-term for each year group, such that all year groups are taught topics from the same curriculum area in the same half-term, eg Geography, History, etc. The curriculum is designed to be as meaningful as possible through links to the local area and current events.

We feel it is important for pupils to have a range of experiences during their time at school and therefore the curriculum is further enhanced through a wide range of enrichment activities including; educational visits/residentials, enterprise experiences, opportunities to learn to play a musical instrument, school plays and concerts, involvement in charity events, Linking Project activities,  opportunities for local community involvement and involvement in extra-curricular activities and sports.
